Born in Damascus, Syria in 1991, Lina Al-Malki’s artistic journey began at a young age, nurtured by her architect father, Radwan Al-Malki. By the time she graduated with a Bachelor in Paintings from Damascus University of Fine Arts in 2014, she had already established herself as a budding artist, actively participating in exhibitions throughout her school and college years.
Al-Malki’s passion for art transcended mere creation; she shared her knowledge and enthusiasm by becoming an art teacher at various universities in Damascus. However, the winds of change swept through her life, leading her to relocate to Cairo, Egypt, where she currently resides. She also conducts drawing and painting classes, spreading her love for art in a new land.
Beyond the act of teaching, Al-Malki’s artistic voice has resonated on international platforms. Her participation in the acclaimed “Behind the Lines Exhibition” (2016-2019) alongside 17 other Syrian artists showcased her work across various Canadian galleries, offering audiences a glimpse into the resilience and creativity of artists navigating displacement.
Her solo exhibition at the Zawaya Art Gallery in Damascus (2019) stands as a testament to her individual artistic expression, while her inclusion in numerous group exhibitions throughout Canada highlights her ability to connect with diverse audiences through her unique artistic language.
