Mona Marzouk

Mona Marzouk was born in Alexandria (Egypt), and recently moved to Helsinki, Finland. She graduated in 1996 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, Germany. A painter and sculptor, her work has often taken the form of large site-specific murals sometimes incorporating animations. Marzouk has shown her work in solo exhibitions at Villa Romana, Florence; Gypsum Gallery, Cairo; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; Art in General, New York and Townhouse Gallery, Cairo; Falaki Gallery, the American University Cairo; Marco Noire Contemporary Art, Turin. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Bozar, Brussels; MUCEM, Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean, Marseilles; MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art Yinchuan; NiMAC, Nicosia, Cyprus; HALLE 14 – Centre for Contemporary Art, Leipzig; Gypsum Gallery, Cairo; EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial, Limerick; The 11th Havana Biennial, Cuba; Steirischer Herbst, Graz, Austria and Galerija Nova, Zagreb, Croatia; 1st Festival of Contemporary Art in Algiers, Algiers; 7th Gwangju Biennial, South Korea; 1st Canary Islands Biennial, Spain; MUSAC, León; REDCAT Gallery Los Angeles; Gallery Sfeir-Semler, Beirut; Progr, Zentrum fur Kulturproduktion, Bern; Museo dell’Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, Genova; Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Brussels; Culturgest, Lisbon, as well as a traveling exhibition organized by ICI – Independent Curators International between 2021-2023. She is the winner of the 2020 Nordic Culture open call for mural painting, and was commissioned to produce a mural for the PUBLICS Art Center in Helsinki in 2020.
