SWANA Chronicles

Hanan Bahamdan

Hanan Abdullah Salem Bahamdan is a portrait painter who has exhibited all over the Middle East and Europe.

In 2005 she became Sotheby’s first female Saudi artist when her oil portrait painting Mannci sold at three times its top estimate, at the auction house’s first sale of modern and contemporary Arab and Iranian art. Thus, she also raised the profile and value of Contemporary Arab artworks and won international recognition.

In 2010 Sotheby’s chose her as the first Arab artist auctioned at an International Contemporary Art auction. Her art pieces were selected and owned by individuals, businessmen, governmental agencies, banks, entrepreneurs and companies all around the world.

Her current artworks are made with classic pigmentation techniques and drawing with glue that she carefully researched for a few years. The research aimed at adapting the classic technique into modern painting styles.
