Born and raised in Damascus to an artist father Ibrahim Alawad, Layali Alawad is a Syrian artist based in Aachen, Germany, where she currently resides and practices her craft. With a versatile approach that spans graphic printing techniques to painting, Alawad’s oeuvre is a testament to
her dedication to the visual arts.
While her artistic repertoire is diverse, Alawad’s primary focus lies in the realm of painting. Through this medium, she channels her passion for storytelling, with a particular emphasis on portraying what she terms “Feminine Icons.” These portraits serve as poignant reflections of the struggles and triumphs experienced by women in the Middle East, shedding light on their multifaceted identities and the societal challenges they confront.
Layali held two solo exhibitions in Cologne and Dresden, and took part in numerous exhibitions in different museums in Europe such as the Stadtmuseum “Haus zum Löwen“ Isenburg and Stadtmuseum Dresden in Germany, Museum van de Vrouw in Echt and Landmuseum van Valkenburg in the Netherlands, Museum Vieille Montage in Kelmis, Belgium. She also participated in several art galleries in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and France.
Alawad holds a bachelor degree from the University of Fine Arts in Damascus and recently completed a Master of Fine Arts at Alanus University in Bonn, Germany, under the supervision of Dr. Ulrike Uller Rüter fundeed by a DAAd.
