“Since I “re/came” to settle in Algeria in 2015, I have been developing a practice as a graphic designer, artist, trainer and cultural practitioner. Through my medium which is graphic design, I experiment with cartography, lettering and editing. I created with Riad Hamed Abdelouahab a graphic studio called “Chimbo” (wild cactus growing on the side of the road) which brings together all these practices. I experiment with sensitive cartography – inspired by the notion of “psychogeography” developed by the situationists – as a medium that shows the invisible uses of the city: the traces of informal commerce in the city by inscribing the route itinerant street vendors in the districts of downtown Algiers and their sound “call” that creates the atmosphere of the city (project developed during the JISER residency in 2019); and which makes it possible to imagine new worlds: an inverted world where the seas would be lakes and where there would be no more borders (map printed at the Think Tanger Print Club in 2020).”
