Marianne Fahmy (b. 1992) is an Egyptian artist living and working in Alexandria, Egypt, whose works span film and installation. She earned her BA in Painting from Alexandria’s Fine Arts University, before joining the MASS Alexandria independent art program in 2016.
Fahmy’s work has previously been shown at the Sharjah Bienniale (2023), the 7th Yokohama triennial (2020), Manifesta 13 (2020), Towner International (2020), Mediterranea 19 Young Artists Biennale (2020), Havana Biennale (2019), and Dakar Biennale (2018). Recent group shows include “Alexandria”, Bozar Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels (2022); “Perceptible Rhythms”, Middle East Institute, Washington DC (2022); “Life, Death, Love and Justice”, Yapı Kredi Culture
Centre, Istanbul (2022); “Breaking Water”, Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art, Ohio (2022); “Prophecy”, Warwick Arts Centre (2022); “Monuments and Flowers”, Casa Arabe, Madrid/ Córdoba (2022) and Postmasters Gallery, New York (2019); and “School of Water”, MAGA Museum of Contemporary art, Gallarate (2021).
Her films have been screened at Kino der Kunst film festival, Munich (2017); Nurnberg Contemporary Art Museum (2017); Contemporary Image Collective, Cairo (2018); and Sharjah Film Festival (2021). She is the recipient of the 2021 Prince Claus Fund seed award, and has taken part in residencies at Le Cube art space in Morocco as well as Pro Helvetia in Switzerland. Her work is in the collection of Frac Bretagne, Rennes, as well as the Sharjah Art Foundation.
