Rana Hatmal’s experience as an architect influences the construction and design of her art. Her use of space is minimalistic yet sufficient to express the richness of her inspirations. As a result, her work juxtaposes complementarity and contrast between the subjects depicted and the colors used. This duality originates in the older religions of the orient and is part of the DNA of those who preceded us and continues through us. Despite the challenges and the changes that she is going through in her new life in Canada, she continues to believe that freedom is a choice that each of us could make.
Duality, Freedom and Migration are key themes for Rana’s artwork.
Rana has showcased her artistic talent through solo exhibitions and group shows, leaving a mark on various international platforms. In 2017, she held a solo exhibition at the Isabel Bader Theatre during the Festival of Arabic Music and Arts in Toronto. Earlier, in May 2016, she presented another solo exhibition at L’irregulier in Beirut. Her participation in group exhibitions includes the Woman’s International Exhibition ‘Daughters of Hathor’ in Luxor, Egypt, in January 2022, and Fierté Montréal at Gallea Art in Montreal in August 2021. Rana’s artistic journey also spans events like The Iraqi Festival Toronto at Meadowvale Theatre in August 2018 and Perspective Carriere in Laval in October 2017. Noteworthy appearances include exhibitions in Damascus, Paris, and Beirut, showcasing her diverse and evolving artistic expressions over the years.
