Rania Atef is a visual artist and researcher living in Cairo, Egypt. She holds a BA degree in Applied Arts from Helwan University (Egypt), was enrolled in TASAWAR curatorial studies program (Tunis), and participated in MASS Alexandria’s independent studio and study program(Alexandria). She is a co-founder K-oh-llective, an online platform that provides resources and facilitates conversations between art practitioners in Egypt and the Arab world. Lately, she has exhibited her work as part of “The Educational Web” in the Kunstverein in Hamburg (2023), “Hijra” program in Musée De La Fondation Slaoui in Casablanca (2023), Archive of Forgetfulness, Goethe Institute, South Africa (2021), Hotel Beethoven, BOZAR/ Centre of Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium (2020), and Artist At Work, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center, Ramallah, Palestine (2020).
Atef is interested in maternal and reproductive labor engaging with infrastructures of social and cultural institutions. Focusing on the invisible side of the act of care, motherhood, labor, authority, and how they are valued and documented. She is a recipient of the Prince Claus Seed Award (2021), Gypsum Bursaries (2022), and the Prince Claus Building Beyond Mentorship Award (22/23). Further, she took part in public programs like the “Tashweesh” festival, “Qayyem” and “Biennale Warsaw”.
