Samia Muhammad Khashoggi was born in 1958 in the city of Abha (Saudi Arabia). She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Montfort University, Leicester and a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Kingston University in Britain. She is an artist, curator, researcher and educator.
Khashoggi is the first Saudi woman to work as an architect in Jeddah City, where she worked for two years then moved to teaching as a lecturer of arts and interior design in several universities, institutions and private schools in Jeddah.
Khashoggi has more than 30 years of experience in the academic interior design and art fields, in addition to designing and managing academic programs. She started to exhibit professionally in 1990’s in group exhibitions and successfully had two solo exhibitions one in 2000 and the other in 2014.
As a painter she founded Saudiaat, a women’s art association for mutual support, which organizes annual sales exhibitions. The first of these was held in September 2005 at the Al-Alamya Gallery in Jeddah. The initiative was a result of Khashoggi’s thesis for her MA studies, which was entitled “The Development of Saudi Women’s Art Movement in the 20th-21st Century” and required that she organize an exhibition showing the work of ten women artists. She also co-founded Saju Studio for art education and training (Jeddah)
Khashoggi won several awards in Saudi Arabia for her efforts in the art and design scene. Among these awards: The best academic lecturer from Dar Al-Hikma (2014-2015), honorary award from Al Mostaqbal Center (2004) Princes Amira Bint Abdullah Award (2003), and “Molawan” the Saudi Airlines award for arts (1991).
