“The paintings and installations of the Iranian artist Samira Hodaei are painstakingly assembled from scores of individual elements.
Whether pixel-like dots that are applied directly on the canvas or discarded everyday objects that are assembled into huge garment-like structures, her work seems to simultaneously cover and uncover the object of its investigation. The narratives she thus weaves together are informed by her personal experience as much as by the wider social and political context of her native country. And while her latest works specifically explore Iran’s recent history they do so by means of subtle references rather than grand statements.”
