Shada Safadi

Safadi was born in Majdal Shams (The Occupied Golan Heights) in 1982, and is based in Ramallah. She is a visual artist, a tutor and a founding member of Fateh Mudarris Center for Arts and Culture in Majdal Shams.

Safadi, a visionary artist born with a palette of creativity, has woven an inspiring narrative through her artistry and cultural contributions. Born in Damascus, Syria, in 1983, Safadi’s journey began with a burning passion for artistic expression that would lead her to touch hearts and minds across the globe.

Safadi’s artistic pursuit started in the early 2000s when she enrolled at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University. From 2001 to 2005, she delved into the realm of Fine Arts, specializing in the Painting section. This foundational period in her education ignited her love for colors, textures, and visual storytelling.

In 2002, Safadi’s thirst for artistic exploration led her to the Adham Ismail Institute, where she studied Graphic design with a focus on the Engraving section. This interdisciplinary approach would become a hallmark of her artistic identity, allowing her to seamlessly blend various techniques and mediums into her work.

In 2006, Safadi’s art took center stage with a solo exhibition at the Fateh Mudarris Center for Arts and Culture in Majdal Shams, Golan Heights. This marked the beginning of a prolific career filled with solo and group exhibitions that showcased her unique fusion of art and culture.

Safadi’s ability to bridge cultures and perspectives became evident in her participation in exhibitions such as “What Do Crocodiles Dream About?” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and “Instant Modernism, on the Architectural Fabrication of Israel” at the A.M Qattan Foundation in Ramallah, Palestine, both in 2023.

One of Safadi’s strengths lies in her deep commitment to fostering artistic growth in others. Her workshops and residencies have left an indelible mark on aspiring artists. Notably, in 2014, she undertook a three-month residency at the “Cité internationale des arts” in Paris, France, enriching her own perspective while sharing her expertise with the world.

Safadi’s journey goes beyond her own canvas, as she has also contributed to the world of education and curation. Her dedication to passing on her knowledge is evident in her role as an educator at Birzeit University, where she imparts skills in Printing, Engraving, and various techniques to eager minds.

As a curator, Safadi has curated exhibitions that transcend artistic boundaries. Notably, in 2020, she curated “The Waters of Nine Thirty” at Fattoush Gallery in Haifa, showcasing her ability to curate immersive experiences that captivate audiences.

From her early education in Damascus to her worldwide exhibitions, workshops, and curation, Safadi’s journey is a colorful symphony that continues to inspire and resonate with art enthusiasts around the world.
