Sonia Kacem

Sonia Kacem (*1985) lives and works in Geneva, where she earned a master’s degree from the Haute école d’art et de design (HEAD) in 2011.

She has won numerous prizes and scholarships, including the Leenard’s Cultural Grant (2023), the Zurich Art Prize (2022), the Kiefer Hablitzel Prize (2015), the Manor Art Prize (2014), and the Swiss Art Awards (2013). She has participated in various residency programs such as the Open Studio at the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan (2022), the Townhouse
Gallery in Cairo (2019), and the Rijksakademie van beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (2016), as well as in New York through the Canton of Geneva (2014).

Her recent solo exhibitions include “La chute” at Château de Gruyères in Gruyères (2024), “Between the scenes” at Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster (2019); “Le Superflu” at Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich (2021); “Carcasse” at the Centre culturel suisse, Paris (2017); “Night Shift” at the Centre d’Art contemporain, Geneva (2016); “Bermuda Triangle”
at Kunsthalle St. Gallen; “Loulou replay” at Kunstverein Nürnberg (2015); “Loulou” at Mamco, Geneva (2014); and “Thérèse” at the Palais de l’Athénée, Geneva (2013).

One of her latest installations has recently being presented as part of the 35th edition of the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts in Slovenia under the artistic direction fo Ibrahim Mahama. In 2024 she will open a solo show at Galerie Gregor Staiger in Zürich.
