SWANA Chronicles

Yasmine Hadni

Born in 1992 in Rabat (Morocco), Yasmine Hadni studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art Villa Arson in Nice, then earned a master’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is primarily a painter, while also exploring other forms of expression including video, drawing, sound and printmaking. Her works demonstrate technical diversity, and have been shown at Kulte Center for Contemporary Art & Editions in Rabat. Both autobiographical and political in nature, her artistic process deconstructs childhood memories, bearing witness to the social mechanisms of a traditional Moroccan family.

The societal paradoxes represented in her art can be understood through the lens of a child’s world that is falsely innocent.
