Oumayma Abouzid Souali

Oumayma Abouzid Souali is a young Moroccan artist, born in 1997 in Rabat. She is currently based between Tetouan and Casablanca. She obtained her Art Diploma in 2021 at the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tetouan (INBA). She has experimented with different mediums, including performance, drawing, printmaking, installation, video art, photography and singing. She is particularly interested in the traces of memory related to effects (Aesthetics of Fear and Aesthetics of Catastrophe), linked to time (Point between “Temps” et “Ton”) and also linked to space (Landscapes: Traces of Saturated Memory).

This summer 2023, she attended two residencies, the first was at Appartement 22, Rabat and the second was a training dedicated to performance, organized by the Derdek Platform (Nezha Rhondali and the Cube independent art room) under the supervision of three performance artists: Romina De Novelis, loic touzé and Fatima Mazmouz.

She has recently been chosen with the artist Oumaima Abaraghe to join the Daret residency in Casablanca for one year (2024). They will start this residency at the beginning of January 2024.

In addition, she has participated in exhibitions such as : Open studio, Derdek platform, at Hiba Lab and at Mokhtabart, Rabat (September,2023), Open studio, apartment 22, Rabat (August,2023), Open studio, DAYZ group residency in Tetouan (November, 2022)/ Working Class/2nd Life, under the artistic curation of the artist Batoul SHimi and the curator and art historian Morad Montazami, at theKent Gallery and the Cervantes Institute Gallery in Tangier (2022), and also at Estampa International Art Fair, in Madrid represented by the Saida Contemporary Art Gallery, Tetouan (2017), among others.
